Johnny is a recent grad of the Art & Design, Games and Playable Media B.A. program at UC Santa Cruz.

An aspiring game developer with a focus in production and writing, Johnny got hands-on experience with both with the year-long student game projects The Adventurer’s Guild and Gremlin Garden during his time at UC Santa Cruz. He also studied related topics, such as game marketing, tabletop RPG creation, and game systems, and actively developed games through involvement with GDACollab, UC Santa Cruz’s game development club. Johnny has also worked as a freelance Korean to English translator specializing in games and IT topics, working on large projects like Dungeon Fighter Online’s Pandemonium War update and EXOS HEROES’ Global release.

The Adventurer’s Guild

The Adventurer’s Guild is 170 Capstone series game, where teams of seniors develop a game from scratch over the course of an academic year. As the Producer and the Narrative Lead, I helped manage a team of 12 and wrote quests and character bios for a DnD-inspired fantasy world. Gremlin Garden 

Gremlin Garden was a game produced through GDA’s mock studio program, where students organize themselves by discipline and develop a game from a pitch given by their fellow students. As the Production Lead and Narrative Lead for Gremlin Garden, I facilitated inter-departmental communication for a group of around 50 student volunteers and shaped the game’s narrative. Korean to English Translation

I have also worked as a freelance Korean to English translator, specializing in video games and IT topics. I chose to do this work during the COVID-19 pandemic since it was remote work that plays to my strengths in English writing and proofreading as well as up-to-date knowledge on topics in IT and games from both Korean and English-speaking perspectives.
